What is Udyam registration?
Udyam Registration is the official MSME certificate issued by the Ministry of MSME, Government of India. It replaced the older Udyog Aadhaar process and is now mandatory to access most MSME-linked benefits — from subsidised loans to preference in government procurement.
Who should register?
Any proprietorship, partnership, LLP, or company engaged in manufacturing or services can register if it meets the revised MSME classification limits (investment in plant & machinery/equipment and annual turnover):
- Micro: Investment up to ₹2.5 crore, turnover up to ₹10 crore
- Small: Investment up to ₹25 crore, turnover up to ₹100 crore
- Medium: Investment up to ₹125 crore, turnover up to ₹500 crore
Key benefits of Udyam certificate
- Collateral-free loans under CGTMSE and lower interest from many banks
- Priority sector lending and faster credit approval
- Exemption from direct tax laws in certain cases and easier compliance
- Preference in government tenders and GeM portal listings
- Protection against delayed payments from buyers (MSMED Act)
- Subsidies on patent registration, ISO certification, and technology upgrades
Documents you need
- Aadhaar of the proprietor / authorised signatory
- PAN of the business entity
- GSTIN (if registered) and bank account details
- NIC code matching your business activity
- Investment and turnover figures (self-declared)
How to register online
- Visit the official udyamregistration.gov.in portal
- Enter Aadhaar and validate with OTP
- Fill business name, type, address, and activity (NIC code)

Common mistakes to avoid
